[04.05-04.20] China Fruit Industry News Flash

China’s fruit companies are moving for more progress since COVID-19 has been put under control in the country. Here come partial industry headlines in China for you by Fruit Expo Committee.

  • On April 9, China Securities Regulatory Commission of Zhejiang Province disclosed that Xianfeng Fruit, a brand fruit retail company, has completed the first phase of the pre-listing tutoring and officially started the listing process.
  •  On April 9, Costco’s subsidiary in Suzhou bought a piece of land in Suzhou New District at a cost of more than 142.5 million yuan ($20.2 million). The plan is for a warehouse store with a floor area of more than 50,000 sq.m. to be finished and start business within 2 years.


  • This April, China’s market of imported jackfruit has returned to normal, and the sales volume has reached 80% -90% of the same period in previous years. Though the sale is less than in previous years, imported jackfruit is still pricing an optimistic version of the market.
  • From Jan. to Feb., China's fruit imports amounted to $2.17 billion, up 8% year-on-year. The top five fruit categories by import value are fresh cherries ($1.17 billion), bananas ($150 million), fresh longans ($128 million), fresh grapes ($97 million), and fresh dragon fruit ($94 million).


  • On April 14, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) authorized the importation of five types of commercially produced fresh citrus fruit from China. APHIS scientists determined that pummelo, Nanfeng honey mandarin, ponkan, sweet orange, and Satsuma mandarin fruit can be imported under a systems approach to protect against the introduction of plant pests. 
  •  In the first 2 months of 2020, China exports $0.76 billion of fruits, with an year-on-year increases of 8%. The top five fruit categories by export value during the first 2 months were citrus ($257 million), fresh apples ($198 million), fresh pears ($116 million), fresh grapes ($45 million), oranges ($21 million).
